One of the best techniques is working with keywords. You want your posting to adhere to the keywords your potential visitors would be looking for. When you got o search in google or yahoo or msn, you will key in certain words to look for a certain criteria. If the keywords you are using are not within that, then you are doing more harm than good to your site.
You also want to get out to as many forums and see about posting the link to your site on as many posts as possible. The more visible it is to others, the greater the cahnces are that someone will click on it.
I would also consider learning basic HTML to make sure that when you post your link, that it is actually clickable, rather than needing to be copied and pasted. That is a big turnoff to a lot of people, because they want ease, not extra work.
