Default renovating houses and older homes?

I'm interested in learning about what it would take to renovate a house, basically start from the bottom of a building and work my way up. I've never done any sort of building or construction in my life but I've been getting more and more creative with project ideas, esp in my parents home, but I want to know what kind of classes I should start with for some basic knowledge, I can come up with most of the designs in my head, its building them that I'd like to learn

I would try and get a job with a contractor that does remodelling and learn first hand from him. Then if you are still interested in pursuing this idea, he could probably tell you what classes would be wise of you to take.
