Default Renovating your home? Don’t forget about the neighbors!

You may not notice it, but your neighbors are part of your important considerations if you are planning to remodel your house. Because it is your house that is being renovated, you would not mind the mess that it could bring, such as dirt, dust and loads of debris, not to mention the irritating noise produced by all that hammering, sawing or cutting those trees. Your neighbors, however, might not be willing to put up with all those.

You should think about your neighbors especially if you live in a village or subdivision where their homes are close to each other. The noise and the dirt produced by the construction of your house might irritate them no end. If you do not consider the comfort and temperament of your neighbors, your relationship with them will surely become less than stellar.

What are those things that will probably get the ire of your neighbors?

* Noise. Lots and lots of noise. The sound of mechanical equipment and vehicles coming and going in front of your house will torment your neighbor, combined with the constant banging of hammers and the pounding on your metal pipes. There are neighbors who want their street quiet, especially if they have babies and small children sleeping most of the day. You also have to deal with those night shift employees who get their sleep during the morning.

* Traffic. The trucks used by your contractor can block your neighbor’s driveway, or may take up the parking space intended for them. Large vehicles parked up front can also prove dangerous for the children playing in the streets.

* Garbage. All those debris and dirt caused by the construction may find its way to your neighbor’s immaculate lawn.

* Eyesore. The sight of a house being dismantled and producing piles of debris and unbelievable amounts of dust is not pleasing to the eye. And the nose, too.

* Other people inside your property. Work crews, like plumbers and carpenters, are not exactly the most refined people in the world, and everyone knows their tendency to use inappropriate language and swear like troupers. This is especially unhealthy if there are children around.

Some measures have to be done to make sure that your neighbor will not go ballistic during the construction/renovation of your house. These are:

* Inform your neighbors about what will happen. They won’t be pleased to wake up one morning to the unexpected sound of trucks and hammering near them. Tell them when will the renovation start, and for how long. Assure them that they can always talk to you if things start to become to noisy for them.

* Set an appropriate schedule for the workers. It is best to let the contractors work on your house from 8 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon. This will prevent the disruption of your neighbors’ well-needed sleep.

* Make sure that the workers will be responsible for cleaning the debris and dust that settles in your neighbor’s property that is produced by the renovation.
