Default What is the effect of large chain stores on the landscape of a community? On...

...real eastate and property values? i live in a small town called Acton. Its a rural place, in which theres a small ammount of population. Acton is in between to big major cities. Acton has prevented wal-mart into comming into here. Panda express has been fighting to get in here with their asian theme, but any store/restuarant etc. must have a cowboy/western theme. what effects would we have if wal-mart were to come in? also , in property value, most of the houses are worth more than 1 million.

About 20 years ago we were a small country town with a square, festivals, and mom n pop shops. Then they built the by-pass, wal-mart, lowes, tractor supply... All the small shops are closing or closed years ago. Small businesses are not returning because they cannot compete. As for property values, we have a man-made lake near by and there is talk of the casino reopening on the indian reservation a few miles away. That, in conjunction with all the bigger stores and restaurants are shooting values in that area through the roof
