Default Can you operate as a real estate agent in california without having a license?

That is can you operate under someone elses license who owns the branch while you work for him/her while you are getting your own license?

You CAN NOT work as an active real estate agent in California WITHOUT A LICENSE. You now need to go to college to take real estate classes and take the Principles test which happens to be an open book test. Then if you pass that you are certified. Does not mean you can do any more its just one step closer to taking the state exam. If you study for the state exam, you study the answers and not the questions! Once your ready to take the state exam and pass that, then you will have a license. Now, just because you are now an agent you still will not have a clue to how the process works. This is were a seasoned agent (or in your case your friend the Broker) should walk you through and teach you to be a Buyers agent. The buyers side is the first side you should learn. Working with buyers will give you a chance to really learn what you are doing. If someone suggests to you that the money is on the listing side, that is true. But beware because unless you really know what your doing it is not an easy road. Learn the ropes first my friend and then the rest will be easy.

It is not legal. You have to have a license before you are able to work as an agent. The broker is going to loose their license.

People do it but it's against the law.

You can be an assistant to a license and you can receive a referral fee but you can't make offers, sign contracts, etc.

I was curious about this as well...you DO need a license, it turns out, although you could have an unlicensed assistant...

There's a document about it there.
