Children's rooms are synonymous to mess. If you happen to see a child's room that is immaculate, your brain must be playing tricks on you. Kids are not exactly the tidiest persons around. Your child's room might be holding an avalanche of junk that consists of toys, dirty clothes, food and other unidentifiable elements. The good news is, it is not impossible to clean up your child's room. You only have to remember the following tips:
Give away stuff Browse through all that junk in your child's room and remove those items that do not belong there. When it comes to toys though, it can become quite tricky. Your kid might not like the idea of parting with his favorite toy. The best thing to do? Find out what his favorite toys are. The rest you can give away to cousins or other children in the neighborhood, or better yet, the orphanage. See, children tend to outgrow their toys after some time, and they may not even notice that the toys that he discarded exist. So get rid of toys that your child does not use anymore, except for a few that he cannot live with, such as his trusty bedtime bear or that scraggly doll (if your kid is a girl.) Create shelves on the ceilings Not only can they lessen the clutter of the room, they are actually great space savers, a good alternative to wall and floor cabinets. All you need is a wooden shelf, plus chains and plant hooks which you will use to hang the shelves. Make sure that the stuff you will place in those cabinets are the ones that your child do not constantly use or search for - do not bother placing his favorite toy up there in the shelves. Give space for a junk drawer Almost all of us have that drawer where we put stuff that we use constantly, or stuff that we cannot distinguish enough to segregate it to a certain shelf. Having the same drawer to your child's room makes perfect sense, because that is the room where most junks reside. Put those little objects which you think should be thrown to the trash, but which your child has grown attached to for some reason. Use the space under the bed Better make use of that empty but considerable space under your child's bed. You can buy those small, box-type containers and small drawers where you can put some of your kid's stuff, and store it under the bed. Use a toy box We are talking about those heavy, wooden toy boxes that we have when we were kids. Today, most parents buy those light, plastic containers to store their kids' stuff. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with using those, the old-fashioned toy box has its own benefits. It is more durable, and it is heavy enough so your child cannot push it around, and will not move and cause your kid to trip on them. |
