Default In cases of animal cruelty, should there be property seizure and forfeiture

laws as applicable with drug laws? Should there be a federal law allowing those convicted of animal cruelty forfeit their assets and property to support humane treatment and care of animals.

Currently, there are laws that allow the government, state and federal, to seize property and assets of those convicted of certain crimes. Should those same laws be extended to animals in cases where animal cruelty is concerned.

Should people like Michael Vick be financially responsible for the care and well-being of all the animals-dogs, he menaced and destroyed or should it be left to the taxpayers and private donations?

Please voice your thoughts regarding property and asset seizure laws pertaining to animal cruelty.

Absolutely. It is a disgrace what Michael Vick did. The stories linked to him and animal abuse are disgusting and sickening. He should be made to pay severely, not just a little fine or slap on the wrist either.

I think there are two factors that should be considered. One, if it is Neglect, they should be fined and NEVER by LAW, allowed to possess a pet ever again......Two, if it is obvious Animal Cruelty, I think the severity should be considered, and then Jail time should come into play. I don't mean, 6mos either....
Recently, there is an incident where these boys tortured this poor little puppy, and I think burned it also....There are psychiatrists who truly believe that is the first step in becoming a Serial Killer....Most if not all Serial Killers are known to have in their youth, tortured little animals. So I think if someone is able to do that, with no regards, remorse, or conscience, then sure, why not lose their home and be put into one!!!! A mental institution, and for a long time!!!!!

i never had given it any thought until you posed the question. innocent minds thankfully don't need to be concerned with this kind of stuff; however thankfully there are individuals in this world who are protective and have the forethought to consider matters such as these. i'm certainly not qualified to be a judge, and yet, now that the question is raised, i would have to say YES! Why not? The taxpayers and private citizens are already unfairly burdened by the thieves and evil doers of this world. it should include those crimes perpetrated against animals as well as humans. it's time bad people got to suffer the consequences for their actions and good people get the relief of stopping to have to foot the bad people's bills. thanks for allowing the chance to give full vent on this... HUGS. Mean ppl suck!

I'll admit that I'm majorly biased against anyone who commits animal cruelty. With that warning?

Absolutely. Or at *least* there should be huge, huge fines (along with jail time) going toward the care and well being of animals.

HELL NO!!!!
Do you actually think that the Fed has any right whatsoever to take anyone's property? It is not in the Constitution! We just do not have the power to fight back.
For animal rights? Even more insane!!
Should people be responsible for their actions? What a profound idea!! OF COURSE THEY SHOULD!!
