Default Police report for forgery on loan documents?

Trying to help a woman who was scamedbig time by a used car dealer. They forged her name on bank loan credit app"s."
I understand how to make the report, but wont the police need original documents? We are getting no where with the lender. It is just a "she said, he said" -But the forgery is very obvious.
Do we have a leg to stand on without original docs? Will the Police refer us to a prosecuter? The loan is nearly 20K? she is forced to make payments out of fear for her credit.
Thanks! FYI the dlr. is in poscession of the vehicle.
Hey old fuzz -You are right!!! -We have been around and around -Trying to save the cost of an atty. Pretty sad huh?
I guess I should feel good that I may have saved a few billable hours of research. I am stubborn and really thought I could do it. But I don't want to damage her more. You are right! Thanks for the reality check!
