| Description |
| DESCRIPTION OF LAND OFFERED BY Mary B. Sheffield and Rudolph R. Baker It is located in the Township of Cashiers, Jackson County, North Carolina, off Whiteside Cove Rd.; at 241 Black Rock Knolls Rd., halfway between Cashiers and Highlands. Highlands is the mailing address. The acreage is 20.22 and is subdivided into three parcels: 1) 3.84 acres owned jointly by Sheffield and Baker, on which sits a log cabin and two small ponds, and offers a 180 degree view of the surrounding mountains; 2) 16.38 acres that continues up Black Rock Mountain, joining National Forest Land. 3) Sheffield owns one-half the track or 8.19 acres and Baker the other 8.19 acres. The land has two springs, and corners on a third spring. The uppermost spring and the one at the lowest point provide water from a common reservoir to the log cabin, as well as to 5 other homes to surrounding owners. The owner is not responsible for keeping up the system, but participates as a user, and is responsible only for the section that serves the old log cabin. Common piping and upkeep of the system is the responsibility of all who have been given water rights to these two springs. These water rights have been deeded, with the understanding that no new building can be attached to the system, except one replacing one now being served. The deeds are recorded and are set forth on a recorded plat in BK 1567 PG 570-575. One may drill a well if so desired. The land is marked by gentle rolling slopes as it progresses to the top of Black Rock Mountain. This provides other locations for a 180 degree viewing of the surrounding mountains. The 3.84 acre is cleared and contains a timeless log cabin with exceptional 180 degree, close and long range, views of Whiteside Mountain, Timber Ridge, Chimney Top, and the Terrapins, overlooking two great ponds and a beautiful meadow. The remaining 16.38 acres is in native timber. The 20.22 acres offer privacy, beautiful color in the fall of the year, and native flowers such as Mountain Laurel, Rhododendron, Blooming Poplar, Dogwoods, native Holly, and low growing plants like all types of ferns, lady slippers, etc. The buildings are principally two-- the log cabin and garage, both over 65 years old. One may want to preserve them or build new structures. They, along with the land, offer many opportunities to own some of the most beautiful land in Western North Carolina, holding the charm of days past. One must see it to fully appreciate its beauty and potential. The owners or members of their families will be glad to show the property upon request, with the boundary survey and other drawings that will help one draw a detailed picture of the tracks, making up the 20.22 acres being offered. You may contact Bronwen Sheffield or Rudolph Baker via email which are both listed on the contact information page.
